Cool on a Hot Day
Well, no, people don't go to
the fabulous cityof Istanbul
for its beaches. But it does have
beaches.
A century ago Ataköy, Yeşilköy and Florya,
west of the Istanbul city
center, were nice wide warm-water beaches
out in the country. Now they're
surrounded by city, and heavily
developed.
Kilyos, on
the Black
Sea coast west of the northern
mouth of the Bosphorus,
was always a second choice because
the Black Sea waters were chilly,
and subject to dangerous undertow.
Now, the land around Kilyos
is being developed also, but
it is still more rural and less
hectic than the city beaches.
If you're in Istanbul on
a very hot summer day and you
want a cool dip in the sea, Kilyos is
the place! |
