Secret Passage Just a few steps from the crazy bustle of Galatasaray Square, more or less across from the British Consulate-General, is this bit of old 19th-century Constantinople. Reached by a restored gateway on Mesrutiyet Caddesi, it's a quiet refuge of small shops, places to get a glass of tea, chat and rest for awhile. There's a "secret" entrance from Istiklal Caddesi through some little shops. Entering that way makes the discovery of the quiet courtyard all the more satisfying. Next door to the Hazzopulo is the equally peaceful Orthodox Church of Panaya Isodyon. |
