Pointed Castle

That's what its name means, and so it is: a natural castle of volcanic tufa, hollowed out and used as a fortress for centuries. It's the highest point in the region and stands as a landmark.

Today Uçhisar is an interesting Cappadocian town not far from Göreme Town and Göreme Open-Air Museum. The people of Uçhisar make their living from farming and tourism.

Some of its historic old stone houses have been restored as hotels, inns and rental villas; many have cave rooms.

From the summit of the "castle" itself you get the best view of Cappadocia (except for the ultimate view: from a hot-air balloon drifting above the lunar landscape.)
