Lunar Landscape? Actually, the moon is probably not as visually interesting as is the volcanic terrain of Cappadocia. Central Anatolia, the heart of Turkey, is mostly fertile rolling steppe or lofty mountains, so the folded rock and pointy pinnacles of Cappadocia come as a surprise--especially in a hot air balloon. You can marvel at the scene as you drive through it, but nothing equals floating silently above it in the cool of early morning, watching companion montgolfiers drift easily eastward toward the sun. |
