It used to be that no one visited Istanbul in winter. You came in the summer to see Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofya (Hagia Sophia), the Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque, the Byzantine Hippodrome and the Bosphorus.

Now Istanbul is busy with visitors year round. Winter has become one of my favorite times to visit: sights are uncrowded, prices for hotels are lower, there's less bustle. The weather can be dreary or, as you see here, gloriously sunny.
