Roofs of Kaleici (Old Antalya), Turkish Mediterranean

Med Red

You see these red-tiled roofs all along the Mediterranean coast from Gibraltar to Antakya.

These are the roofs of Kaleiçi (KAH-leh-ee-chee, "within the castle"), the historic Old City of Antalya. Though most of its buildings date from Ottoman times, many of the foundations may go back to Rome or before.

Kaleiçi is the place to look for a small, charming pension, inn or boutique hotel. Many of the old houses have been converted to atmospheric lodgings.

Parking is a big pain, but your hotel or inn owner will be able to advise.
