With very few exceptions, Pamukkale
hotels are of three types:
— Small backpacker pensions
in Pamukkale Town
— More modern small, basic backpacker
hotels in Pamukkale Town
— Big resort
hotels in Karahayıt
Because fewer backpackers are coming
to Turkey nowadays, the pensions and
hotels in Pamukkale Town receive fewer
visitors, making it difficult for them
to keep their standards high. Here's
how to find a good one:
Same goes for the Karahayıt
resort hotels. Built in
the hopes that thousands of guests
would come to spend a week
"taking the cure" in their
hot mineral waters, they find themselves
instead hosting one-night stays
by bus tour groups on their
way between Aegean Turkey and points
to the east.
Far
too many large hotels were built, so
they compete vigorously for guests.
Hotel rates, therefore,
are usually
very low. Many four-
and five-star hotels charge as little
as TL45
per person for room, buffet breakfast
and buffet dinner. (Drinks are not
included, however, and can be quite
expensive.)
Perhaps the best of the Karahayıt
resort hotels are the two Richmond hotels and
the Spa
Hotel Colossae Thermal Hotel Denizli.
As for swimming,
all hotels, and most inns and pensions
have swimming pools filled
with the same warm waters in which
you can let the calcium make your
skin feel silky, but still, the biggest
thrill comes from swimming in the
sacred pool.
What about hotels in Denizli? There
are some, but Pamukkale has a better
selection of hotels, at better prices,
without the hassle of negotiating a
somewhat chaotic city, and putting
up with its noise.
