It's not unusual for modern
museums to have cafe-restaurants,
but the Culture Museum & Restaurant-Cafe in
Ortahisar, Cappadocia,
turns the tables on this concept by
having a fine
restaurant with its own ethnographic
museum.
Located right in the center of Ortahisar,
the attractive restaurant is
set up in fine old airy stone-arched
chambers with
decorative wood ceilings and plenty
of
windows.
There's an open-air
terrace dining area for
fair-weather dining as well. From
its umbrella-shaded
tables you can enjoy good views of
the busy town square, of Ortahisar's
natural stone "castle," and on clear
days of mighty Mount Erciyes in the
distance to the east.
The surprisingly well-done museum is
in an old caravanserai portion of the
building, a series of vaulted chambers
furnished with dioramas of secnes from
village life.
