Kale Konak means
"Castle Mansion," and in
this case the Kale Konak Guesthouse is
a beautiful restored cave inn on the
slopes of
Uçhisar hill
with panoramic views of the Cappadocian
country side.
Uçhisar,
as you may know by now, is the prominent
natural "fortress"
that looms above the Cappadocian countryside.
The Kale Konak Guesthouse is
only a few minutes' walk from Uçhisar's
natural "castle" and the
center of the town with its shops and
restaurants.
Although you're plenty close to the
town center, the house's hillside location
keeps it away from noise and bustle.
You almost feel as though you're in
the country in this refuge.
Sit out on the Roman-arched terrace and watch the dawn
light flood the
sky, or relax in the blissfully cool
and quiet sanctuary of your cave
room after a long day of trekking through
the volcanic moonscape valleys of Cappadocia,
and the Kale Konak becomes your mansion.
My favorite room is the one with a
nice old brass bed for parents, and
a small "cave-ette" for the kids. Lamps
in wall niches cast a cozy glow, and
carpeted wood floors keep your feet
from getting cold.
