Southeast of Niğde in
the Aladağ mountains (a continuation
of Turkey's Bolkar range)
is Aladağlar National
Park(Aladağlar
Milli Parkı), which contains the
impressive Kapuzbaşı
Waterfalls and
possibilities for hiking and river
rafting on the lively Zamanti
Nehri.
The Kapuzbaşı
Şelalesi (waterfalls)
is the main attraction, but the mountain
scenery—especially in spring, with
all the wildflowers, and in autumn, with
the foliage colors—is beautiful
all along the way.
Overnight
accommodations in
the park are limited and very
basic (spartan
village guesthouses), so many people
go to Aladağlar (AH-lah-dah-lahr)
on a day-trip from Cappadocia.
Aladaglar National Park is about 144
km (90 miles) south of Cappadocia,
a 2-1/4-hour drive.
