What is now Sultanahmet, the touristic
heart of Old Istanbul, was once the
site of several ancient Byzantine palaces.
You will feel yourself directly in
touch with all that history as soon
as you step inside the tiny Naz
Wooden House Inn which was built right up
against a stretch of Byzantine wall.
Incorporated into the hotel’s
decoration, this makes for a very special
atmosphere.
The Naz Wooden House Inn only has
7 fairly small rooms, the finest of
them with parts of the old city wall
running through it. All have private
bathrooms and cable
television, and
are decorated with attractive wooden
furniture. Kilims thrown on the wooden
floor add that extra dash of color.
Breakfast is served
on a petite terrace with views out
towards the Princes
Islands on one
side and the Blue
Mosque on the other.
Balconies overlook
the Sea
of Marmara.
The trains that
occasionally rattle past the windows
will be consigned to history as soon
as the huge Marmaray
Project linking the two sides
of the Bosphorus comes to completion.
The location, in a quiet residential
side street, still retains a friendly
Turkish atmosphere, and you won’t
have any hassle staying here. At the
same time it’s within an easy
ten-minute walk of the Blue
Mosque,
Aya
Sofya, the Topkapi
Palace and all
the other great sights of Old
Istanbul.
Owned by the same partnership as the
Sultan’s
Inn and the Deniz
Konak Hotel, the Inn benefits from a thoroughly
experienced management.
