The "Hagia Sophia Pensions" was the second major historic restoration project of the late Mr Çelik Gülersoy, longtime leader of the Turkish Touring and Automobile Association ("Turing").

His first project, the Ottoman-style Yesil Ev inn, had been such a signal success that he undertook to restore everything on Sogukçesme Sokak.

Guest rooms are mostly on the upper floors. Obviously, those at the front of the buildings with views of Ayasofya are preferable; rooms at the back receive less light and may have little in the way of views. Ask for a front room.

All are furnished simply in Ottoman style, and the location, of course, couldn't be better: on a quiet street right between Topkapi Palace and Ayasofya, with the bustle of Sultanahmet Square only two short blocks away.

Recently I have had reports from guests who were not completely satisfied with their rooms. If you stay here and if your room is not as you expected, you may want to ask to be moved to a better room.

When you contact the hotel, please mention TurkeyTravelPlanner.com. Here's why.
