Tepebasi is
the district just west of southern Istiklal
Caddesi in Beyoglu.
Here you'll find the nostalgic old Pera
Palas Oteli, the Palazzo
Corpi (formerly the American
Embassy/Consulate), the Italian and
other consulates and,
just to the north, the British
Consulate-General.
Tepebasi was
the prime lodging area for
Europeans visiting Constantinople from
the late 1800s until the mid-1900s.
Each of the few hotels still here has something
special to recommend it.
NOSTALGIC HOTELS
Grand
Hotel de Londres (Büyük
Londra Oteli)
Once a grand hotel, now a
bit warn, but still full of nostalgia,
and a lot cheaper than the neraby Pera
Palas Oteli.
Pera
Palas Oteli
The grande dame of Istanbul's
Ottoman-era hotels, built to shelter
passengers arriving on the Orient
Express.
MODERN HOTELS
Yenisehir Palas
A good 4-star, and longtime
favorite with visitors from Greece.
Greek, Turkish and English spoken!

The Grand
Hôtel de Londres (Büyük
Londra Oteli) positively reeks
faded glory from
the heyday of European influence
in Ottoman Constantinople.
