Haci
Abdullah,
a half block northwest off Istiklal
Caddesi at Atif Yilmaz Caddesi
No. 17, is among the city's
famous old dining places.
The
street used to be named Sakizagaci
Caddesi, by the way. It's behind
the Aga Camii, the only mosque
on Istiklal.
The
ambience is refined, the Turkish
food is delicious, but no alcoholic
beverages are served.
This
is a great place for women
traveling alone to dine undisturbed.
The
menu is traditionally Turkish, listing
salads (TL6), Zeytinyaglilar (cold
dishes made with olive oil, TL11
to TL15), Sicak Sebze Yemekleri (hot
vegetables dishes, TL11 to TL15)
and Türk Mutfagi (Special
Ottoman-Turkish Dishes, TL18 to TL32).
Two
people choosing one each of the above
groups could easily produce a total
bill of TL100 for two for a fine
dinner.
If
there is a set-price buffet, check
your hunger and the price before
choosing it. I
had a report in October 2009 of customers
being invited to the buffet, only
to find that their relatively modest choices
yielded a bill of TL142!
