Istanbul's Red
River Pub, on
Hüdavendigâr Caddesi near
the Orient
Express Hotel and next to the İlkay
Hotel, is a great place to relax
with a soft drink, coffee, tea, beer,
whiskey, and a snack or full meal.
Named after the classic John
Wayne movie, Red River
Pub's
American Western theme may seem out
of place in Istanbul, but western
movies are really international.
Everybody loves them, and both Turks
and foreign visitors enjoy the comfortable
atmosphere here.

In 2011 the menu was
changed. It now includes numerous
popular international dishes done with
a Turkish twist, as well as excellent
Turkish dishes.
In November 2011, I
had the Koruk
Kebap, slices of succulent
lamb interspersed
with slices of goat cheese, on a bed
of koruk, a tart herb-plant
gathered between the rocks in the hinterland
of İzmir. The plant grows only a few
weeks each year, and must be found
and gathered at that time. It shares
the name koruk with the Turkish
version of verjus, the juice
of unripe fruit (grapes, cherries,
etc.), which flavor it resembles in
its tartness.
How does a bar have
such refined food? The kitchen is under
the direction of the chef at the nearby Paşazade
Restaurant. More...
