Terbiyik Sokak, Sultanahmet
Terbiyik Sokak, Sultanahmet, Istanbul, Turkey

Quiet Terbiyik Sokak (sniff and smell the fresh bread!)

Terbiyik Sokak is hardly the most grippingly beautiful street in Istanbul's Sultanahmet district, but it's not bad.

Because it's pretty much a dead-end, there's very little traffic. The bread truck backs up to the bakery on its western end several times a day, but it's not noisy and any inconvenience is more than compensated by the scent of fresh-baked bread.

Terbiyik (TEHR-buh-yuhk, "Street of the Youth Whose Moustache Has Just Started") adds its obsession with facial hair to that of the other hair-oriented streets in the district, Akbiyik Caddesi and Kabasakal Sokak (see map below).
