Backpackers
Travel Agency operates
an excellent airport private
transfer service to and from Istanbul's Atatürk
Airport and Sabiha
Gökçen Airport that's
far more comfortable and reliable than
a taxi, but only slightly more expensive.
Your Backpackers
Travel
driver will be waiting for you, holding
a sign with your name on
it, when you
emerge from the airport's secure Customs
area. He'll help you with your luggage
and lead you to the vehicle, most commonly
a comfortable Mercedes-Benz
minivan.
Your private minivan—it's
just for you, it is
not a public shuttle—will
take you directly to your hotel, where
the driver will help you with your
luggage all the way to the hotel reception
desk.
Whether driving from the airport to
your hotel, or from your hotel to the
airport, your driver will offer you snacks,
fruit juice and spring water as refreshments.
Let me tell you, this is very welcome
when going to the airport early in
the morning, before breakfast is being
served in the hotel, and given the
exorbitant prices for food and drink
at Turkish airports!
The cost of this
private service, for up to
four passengers, is just
20 euros for the trip
between Atatürk
Airport and Sultanahmet,
or 25
euros between the airport
and Taksim
Square;
and just 45 euros between Sabiha
Gökçen
Airport and Sultanahmet or Taksim
Square.
(Other destinations, and trips with
more than four passengers, may have
different prices.)
Let me make this clear: that price
is for the entire vehicle, not per
person, and the vehicle is yours alone—no
other passengers. It's about 40% higher
than a comparable ride in an Istanbul
taxi, but is
1000% more comfortable, safe, reliable
and pleasant—a great introduction to
the city. As such, it constitutes very
good value for money.
A regular yellow Istanbul
taxi,
by the way, can take two passengers
comfortably, three in a bit of a squeeze,
four maximum, but it may not be able
to hold all the luggage even for three
passengers, let alone four, if
your bags are large or many because
of the large LNG tank in the trunk/boot.
A taxi usually costs about TL30
between Atatürk
Airport and Sultanahmet or Taksim
Square, so you can see that
the Backpackers' service is very reasonably
priced; and a ride in an Istanbul
taxi is often not a pleasant experience.

Backpackers Travel, by the way, also
operates three good modrately-priced
hotels in Istanbul: Sultan's
Inn, Deniz
Konak, and Naz
Wooden House, worth
considering for your stay in Istanbul.
