Istanbul's Apricot Hotel is just what thrifty travelers are looking for: clean, central, cheerful, friendly, quiet and value priced accommodation.

Located just three minutes' stroll downhill from the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome, the Apricot is on quiet Amiral Tafdil Sokak opposite the Hotel Avicenna.

Alll of the six guest rooms have private bathrooms, and several have combination baths with European-style shower and Turkish-style hamam splash baths, which are lots of fun: you can take a Turkish-style splash bath right in the comfort of your hotel room.

The four rooms on the west side of the hotel have balconies and views of the Blue Mosque. The two on the east side have a separate sitting area with a couch that converts to a bed, so the room can sleep up to four people.

Mr Hakan Kocatürk, the Apricot Hotel's owner-manager, has recently renovated a nearby building on a quiet street into the Apricot Apartments. Each of the three small air-conditioned studio apartments has a complete kitchen, small bathroom with shower, and a small bed/sitting room and balcony with sunset views over the Sea of Marmara to the Princes Islands. There is some daytime noise from the boulevard and train line below, but little at night, and double-glazed windows shut it out when closed.
