The Madison Hotel, Taksim, Istanbul

I like The Madison: it's like a small 5-Star at the price of a 4-Star.

Why? Friendly, professional service, and some of the nice extras usually found only in 5-Stars: a Turkish bath, small indoor swimming pool, small exercise room, and live music in the lobby bar/lounge some evenings. There's a restaurant and separate breakfast room as well.

Not only that, it has a great location only a 5-minute stroll from Taksim Square, even less to the Metro (if you're going north to the Levents--not, unfortunately, the Metro to Atatürk Airport, although the Havas airport bus terminus is only one short block from the hotel).

Details: 108 rooms and 2 suites, all with the normal direct-dial phone, satellite TV, air conditioning, safe deposit box, hair dryer, tub-and-shower private bathroom, and 24-hour room service.
