If you're looking for a small, simple, quiet apartment in Old Istanbul for a stay of a week or two,or a month or two, Efendi Apartments may be just right.

Located on quiet Cankurtaran Caddesi not far from the Cankurtaran suburban train station, the apartments are a 10-minute walk downhill from the Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque and the Hippodrome.

Each of the three apartments has a bedroom with either a queen-size bed or twin beds, TV and air conditioner, small bathroom with shower, and small kitchen with range/cooker, sink, refrigerator, some kitchen equipment and supplies for making coffee and tea. Occupancy in each apartment is for one or two people.

The ground-floor apartment has a tiny terrace. The top-floor apartment has a bit of Bosphorus view. All apartments receive plenty of morning and afternoon sunlight. Furnishings are new, simple, and tidy.

The apartments are reached by stairs (no elevator/lift).

The Sirkeci-Halkalı suburban train line parallels Cankurtaran Caddesi, and trains pass along the line across the street from the apartments about every 15 or 20 minutes throughout the day, but not during the night. New, quiet trainsets have replaced most of the noisy old trains, and the trains slow as they approach Cankurtaran Station, so the noise is not bad. Double-glazed windows keep out the residual noise.

In 2013, with the opening of the Marmaray commuter rail system, these tracks will be out of service—no trains will run here.

I must emphasize: these apartments are small. They should really be looked upon as 3-star hotel rooms-with-kitchen. They have no salon/sitting room, nor seating area in the bedroom. The big windows in front and back keep them from being claustrophobic, however, and their compact size keeps the rent delightfully affordable in increasingly expensive Istanbul.

The apartments are owned and operated by Backpackers Travel. When you contact Backpackers for availability, rates and reservations, please mention TTP. Here's why.
