The "Hagia Sophia Mansions" was the second major historic restoration project of the late Mr Çelik Gülersoy, longtime leader of the Turkish Touring and Automobile Association ("Turing").

His first project, the Ottoman-style Yeşil Ev inn, had been such a signal success that he undertook to restore everything on Soğukçeşme Sokak.

Guest rooms are mostly on the upper floors. Obviously, those at the front of the buildings with views of Ayasofya are preferable; rooms at the back receive less light and may have little in the way of views. Ask for a front room.

All are furnished simply in Ottoman style, and the location, of course, couldn't be better: on a quiet street right between Topkapı Palace and Ayasofya, with the bustle of Sultanahmet Square only two short blocks away.

For reservations, contact my friends at Backpackers Travel, a travel agency partner of TurkeyTravelPlanner.com. When you contact the agency, please mention TurkeyTravelPlanner.com. Here's why.
