Madame Sylvie came from France in 1974 and decided to stay. Her pension is cheerful, modern, spotless and refraissisant, with vrai café, not instant, in the morning. Kiliçaslan Mahallesi, Firin Sok. 30, tel +90 242 241 1316, fax 241 3656.

Held Otel & Pansiyon
Family-owned and -run, the 10 old-fashioned high-ceilinged rooms in this 150-year-old house have modern bathrooms, air conditioners, TVs, phones and minibars. There are also 8 rooms across the street in a newer building. The rear garden is a shady oasis, and there's even a small swimming pool with separate kiddie pool. White Garden Pansiyon
Tidy 15-room pension, garden bar and restaurant. Kiliçaslan Mahallesi, Hesapçi Geçidi No. 9, tel +90 242 241 9115, fax 241 2062.

Elize Hotel
Opened in June 2005, this little 12-room place is really a pension, only a one-minute stroll from the Roman (yacht) harbor. Hidirlik Sok. 23, tel +90 242 312 0001, fax +90 242 321 8841.
