Castle of Seven Towers

Postby Tavsan » Fri Jan 20, 2012 5:21 am

I am wondering if anyone here has visited the Castle of Seven Towers. I have wanted to visit there for a while now and I am wondering what others might have thought upon their visit there. Thinking about making the trip next time I am in Istanbul.

Here is a wonderful Turkish song about "Yedi Kule" The castle of 7 Towers.

Certainly go. As you probably already know, Yedikule incorporates the former Golden Gate. The castle is full of the atmosphere of Palaiologan decline and of the conquest. There was nobody else there when I visited.

While you're there, you might also go and have a look at Stoudios (AKA Imrahor Camii), which is not far away from Yedikule. Stoudios was the centre of Byzantine monastic culture; for the non-Orthodox layman, perhaps it's most important contribution was to the field of music.

It is on my must see list for my next visit to Istanbul. I don't understand why it seems to receive so little attention from tourists. Seems like a fascinating place.
