collecting coins

Postby jon2101 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 3:47 pm

Hello all, I am traveling to Turkey in a month and collect coins as a hobby. I was wondering if anyone could tell be if there are coin stores or places that deal in coins in any way, where to find them and any thing you may know about the trade there. My interest is mainly older coins.
Thanks

never saw anything like this.
Maybe in Istanbul, I think it certainly will not be available in other cities

But maybe I'm wrong,

i found some god old silver coins and turkish republic coins in the antique shops of Beyoglu in Taksim Istanbul. mostly a good selection of 1-2 hundred year old coins from the middle east and eastern europe. stay away from any roman/greek/or other ancient coins. they are almost all fake. also it is illegal to sell, buy, or take them out of the country. even if you are caught leaving with fake roman coins the customs people may not be able to tell and you could be detained.
