Gas flame fills the
balloon with
hot air.

Göreme Balloons is
among Cappadocia's most prominent hot-air
balloon companies, having flown over
Turkey's spectacular moonscape since
1997.
The company's headquarters in Ürgüp is
an impressive
installation, as it
must be to cater to the many pilots
from many countries and the amount
of equipment needed to launch a
dozen balloons each morning.
You'll no doubt see Göreme
Balloons'
signature multicolored balloons flying
above you just after dawn on any fair
day.
The launch of their most popular flight
is a sight to behold: ground crews
inflate ten or more balloons at once.
From flat folds of cloth the giant
envelopes fill with air, first cold,
then hot, until they rise from the
volcanic soil, passengers clamber into
the baskets, and they'yre off into
the sky.
The panoramic view of the Cappadocian
moonscape are unforgettable, of course,
as your balloon rises to a kilometer
or more into the sky, then dips down
into a valley for a close look at the
landscape.
At the end of the flight there's the
traditional champagne toast, and a
certificate with your name on it testifying
to your flight into the blue.
The standard flight rises just after
dawn, and ends in time for you to return
to your hotel for breakfast and the
beginning of any day tours you may
have planned.
