The Presidential Cycling Tour
of Turkey is Turkey's big
annual international bicycle race.
Big names from the world of bicycle
racing come to Turkey to compete
for the prizes...and the publicity.
The race, held each year in late April,
takes cyclists to all parts of the
country to complete in a succession
of stages (etap in Turkish).
The 47th annual race began
on April 24, 2011, and ended on May
1, 2011, including stages in Istanbul and Aegean
Turkey, visiting places such
as Ephesus, Kuşadası, Bodrum, Marmaris,
Pamukkale, Fethiye,
Finike, Antalya and Alanya.
The event brings cycling enthusiasts
and their followers to Turkey, and
generates a lot of publicity, highlighting
many of Turkey's favorite travel destinations.
