Ms Eveline Zoutendijk of Istanbul offers
easy, enjoyable, very informative
and fun half-day Turkish
cooking classes to foreign
visitors at her new restaurant on Akbiyik
Caddesi in the heart of Sultanahmet's
hotel district.
(Chef Zoutendijk used to give classes
at Istanbul's Hotel
Sarniç,
but she has now moved to her own location
and no longer has any connection with
the hotel.)
Class participants meet at 10:30
am at the Cooking Alaturka
Restaurant at Akbiyik
Caddesi No. 72a
(map), in Sultanahmet just off the Hippodrome behind
the Blue
Mosque, for
coffee and a general introduction to Turkish
cuisine.
By 11:00 am you're in the
special culinary-course mutfak (kitchen).
You're ready to help the master chef
prepare the midday meal using the best
seasonal market ingredients. Step-by-step
instructions, and many willing hands,
produce a delicious
and varied collection of dishes.
As soon as all is ready, you sit
down to luncheon and enjoy
your handiwork, with genial comments
and comparisons all around. Afiyet olsun! (Enjoy
your meal!)
By 14:30 (2:30 pm), luncheon is usually
over, the last questions asked and
answered, the final pointers and recommendations
conveyed, and you're on your way to
further explorations of Istanbul.
Turkish cuisine is
no longer an exotic mystery, but an
open door for further discovery.
Classes are held most days: email
Ms Zoutendijk to make arrangements
and mention your wish to participate,
and to confirm the date, time and
fee (60 euros per person,
which includes the complete lunch,
with drinks).
When you contact
Ms Zoutendijk, be
sure to mention TTP. Here's
why.
