Trains
between Istanbul (Haydarpasa
Garı) and Ankara (Ankara
Garı) are the best in
Turkey.
Most are fast,
comfortable and relatively cheap. Now,
with high-speed
train service, they're
even faster: about 5-1/2 hours between
Turkey's two largest cities.
Eventually the high-speed
train line
will be completed all the way to Istanbul,
but at present it operates
only between Ankara and Eskisehir.
Between Eskisehir and Istanbul (Haydarpasa),
you take a traditional express
train:
Istanbul - Eskişehir
- Ankara
You begin your journey
at Istanbul's Haydarapasa
Station,
and continue from Eskisehir to Ankara on a high-speed
train.

ISTANBUL'S TWO TRAIN
STATIONS
Note that in Turkish State Railways
information and schedules, the names
of stations are used, not names
of cities. So if you're traveling from
Istanbul to Anatolia (Turkey
east of the Bosphorus),
you should look for "Haydarpasa" in
the schedules, not "Istanbul."
Trains departing Istanbul's Haydarpasa
Station on the Asian side
of the Bosphorus go
to Ankara and
other Anatolian destinations.
Trains departing Istanbul's Istanbul
(Sirkeci) Station on the Golden
Horn go to Edirne,
Greece
and Europe.
