One train per week, on Friday,
makes the 5-hour trip between Gaziantep,
Turkey, and Aleppo (Halep, Halab),
Syria, stopping at Nizip, Karkamış
and Çobanbey along the way.
The train times are not convenient:
departure from Gaziantep is at 20:30
(8:30 pm) on Friday, with arrival in
Aleppo at 01:29 (1:29 am) on Saturday.
Departure from Aleppo is at 05:00
am on Friday, with arrival in Gaziantep at 10:00 am.
A one-way ticket costs 12.75 euros.
There's also a night train that makes
the journey between Mersin,
on Turkey's Mediterranean
coast west of Adana,
and Halab (Halep, Aleppo),
Syria, once weekly, on Friday. Here's
the TCDD web page (in Turkish).
The train hauls six regular railway
coaches and a dining car, but no sleeping
cars, so you'll sit up
all night, as in a bus.
The trip takes nine hours and 10 minutes,
if it's on time. More...
You can take the Iç
Anadolu Mavi Tren from Istanbul to Adana,
then the Mersin-Aleppo
train,
to go from Istanbul to Syria.
