The Turkish State Railways (TCDD)
announced that, as of February 2, 2012, virtually
all Anatolian intercity trains to and
from Istanbul's Haydarpaşa
Station were
suspended so that the rail
line could be upgraded for high-speed
train (YHT) service.
The suspension is expected to last
for two years, until sometime in 2014.
Haydarpaşa—Gebze suburban
trains (banliyö
trenleri) continue
to run, and in fact the number of
suburban trains has been increased to 180
per day: every
10 minutes during rush hours, every
15 minutes at other times.
(European suburban and intercity trains
to and from Istanbul's Sirkeci
Gar continue
to run normally.)
These trains no longer run at all:
Adapazarı treni
Anadolu
Ekspresi
Ankara Ekspresi
Başkent Ekspresi
Cumhuriyet Ekspresi
Eskişehir Ekspresi
Fatih Ekspresi
Meram Ekspresi
Sakarya Ekspresi
My feeling is that most if not all
of these trains will not be resumed
when the high-speed line is completed.
The future high-speed train service
may make overnight sleeper
trains obsolete...sigh.
These trains make limited runs:
Boğaziçi Ekspresi: Ankara-Arifiye-Ankara
Doğu Ekspresi: Ankara-Kars-Ankara
Güney Ekspresi: Ankara-Kurtalan-Ankara
İçanadolu
Mavi Tren: Adana-Arifiye-Adana
Vangölü
Ekspresi: Ankara-Elazığ-Ankara
