The İzmir Mavi Tren (MAH-vee trehn, "Izmir Blue Train") departs Izmir at 19:40 (7:40 pm) daily and arrives in Ankara, 824 km (512 miles) about 14 hours later at 09:32 am.

From Ankara, the İzmir Mavi Tren departs at 19:50 (7:50 pm) and arrives in Izmir the next morning at 09:05 am—if it's on time.

Although this train—and most trains to/from Izmir—normally operates from Basmane station, currently it departs and arrives at Izmir's Alsancak station, 2 km (1.24 miles) north instead (map).

The train hauls Pullman cars, sleeping cars, and a dining car.

A one-way/single ticket costs TL27.

The total fare (train fare + bed + service charge) in a sleeping car is TL90 for a single person alone in a private compartment, or TL65 per person if two people share a compartment.

The Karesi Ekspresi is a slower, lower-fare night train with Pullman cars, a couchette car, and a dining car.

Please read this safety notice about sleeping car travel.
