The Meram Ekspresi,
named for Meram (meh-RAHM),
a garden suburb of Konya,
has been suspended along
with all other trains departing from Istanbul's Haydarpaşa
Station
as work progresses on the rail line
east of Istanbul to upgrade it for
high-speed train service.
The line between Istanbul and Arifiye,
150 km (93 miles) to the east (map),
will be closed until sometime in 2014. More...
So there is temporarily no direct train
service between Istanbul and Konya, although there is high-speed
train service between Ankara and Konya, and in the
future there will be high-speed train service between
Istanbul and Konya.
