You can enjoy travel in
a sleeping
car on these Turkish routes
and trains. Here's how to buy tickets.
Ankara
Ekspresi
Turkey's premier overnight train, it hauls only
sleeping cars.
Anadolu
Ekspresi
A good mixed train of sleeping cars, couchettes and
compartment cars.
Dogu
Ekspresi
Older, slower, less "prime"... unless you're
going far east,
take the Ankara
Ekspresi or Anadolu
Ekspresi instead.
Vangölü/Güney/Trans
Asya Ekspresi
On alternate days (more or less) this slow, old train
ends un in Van or Diyarbakir. Once a week it goes
on to Teheran.
Toros
Ekspresi
It's a pretty long trip by train between Istanbul
and Adana or Gaziantep... The plane takes less than
two hours. Once a week a sleeping car continues to
Damascus.
Iç Anadolu
Mavi Tren
This Istanbul-Adana "Inner Anatolia Blue Train" is
the best on the run.
Meram
Ekspresi
This Istanbul-Konya
train departs at dinnertime, takes
13-1/2 hours, arrives at breakfast
time the next morning. Good!
Pamukkale
Ekspresi
A 15-hour, 665-km
(413-mile) overnight run, the closest
you'll get to Izmir from Istanbul by
sleeper train (no train service Istanbul-Izmir).
Izmir
Mavi Tren
This good "Blue Train" is mixed, with sleeping
and Pullman cars. Other
Ankara-Izmir trains.
Erzurum
Ekspresi
Preferable to the Dogu
Ekspresi: faster and newer.
Sleeper
train fares from
the TCDD website. (Tam means "full
fare," %20 indirimli means "20%
discount" (for round-trip/return
tickets, children 0 to 7 years old,
students, teachers, soldiers, those
