Several trains run between cities
in southeastern Turkey and
the Syrian
cities of Aleppo (Halep,
Halab) and
Damascus (Şam, Dimashk).
Connecting
trains make it possible to go all the
way from Istanbul (Haydarpaşa)
to Damascus,
reviving a route built over a century
ago.
ISTANBUL - ALEPPO
Take the Iç
Anadolu Mavi Tren from Istanbul to
Adana,
then the Mersin-Halep
(Aleppo) train (Friday
only) to Aleppo to change for Damascus.

Trains run one day per week (Friday)
between Mersin
and Aleppo, stopping in Adana, Islahiye

IRAN-TURKEY-SYRIA TRAIN
Once per week a train runs between
Teheran (Tahran), Iran, through Turkey
to Damascus, Syria,
stopping at
Tebriz, Razi, Kapıköy, Van, Van İskelesi,
Tatvan İskelesi, Tatvan, Muş, Elazığ,
Malatya, Fevzipaşa, Islahiye, Meydanekbez
(Midan Ikbis), Aleppo (Halep, Halab)
and Damascus (Dimashk, Şam).
The entire trip takes about 60 hours
(2-1/2 days) and costs 33.50 euros
one-way from Teheran to Damascus, but
between Islahiye (between Osmaniye
and Gaziantep, Turkey) and Aleppo
the fare is only 6.30 euros.
